AJUNGE PENTRU STELE: Day 2

This was the plane that we took from Vienna to Iasi Romania. It was tiny and all I could see from the window was the side of the propeller! We had to take a bus to board the plane in Vienna. In Iasi Romania there are no terminals.. only jets like this one. Right after taking this picture I had a Romanian security officer run towards me yelling "Nu Fotografiile!" I guess I was not allowed to take pictures! Thank goodness I got this picture first!

Why Romania?

Right now there are nearly 100,000 children in the orphanage system in Romania and more children are abandoned each day. Why is this? Until 1989 Romania was a communist country ruled by the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. During his rule he imposed harsh economic restrictions on his people causing mass poverty. Strict taxes and laws encouraged increase of children born. Many of the abandoned children today are psychologically, emotionally, and physically abused. The children that myself as well as the other BYU girls are working with are all physically and/ or emotionally disabled. We also work in the hospitals where children are abandoned on a daily basis. While we cannot change the world, we are here to help ease the burden of the journey. Give these children a few more laughs and a few more smiles.

My schedule here consists of working in the orphanage in the morning, and working with kids 'fara mama', or without moms, in the hospital from 2pm-5pm Mon-Fri.
